Dental Exam

Preventive Dental Care is the prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of the diseases of the oral cavity. Not only is Preventive Dental Care aim to maintain the natural functioning and appearance of your teeth. Preventive Dental Care demonstrates the appropriate methods of brushing and flossing the teeth. Patients are advised about the kind of food that should be taken or avoided for good dental health. Preventive Dental Care includes preventive dentistry i.e. treatment of teeth with fluorides or other substances to prevent decay.

Dental exams are an important part of preventive oral health care. During a dental exam, Dr. Brandhorst or the hygienist will clean your teeth and identify any concerns.  We will evaluate your risk of developing tooth decay and other oral health problems, as well as check your head and neck.  A dental exam might also include dental X-rays or other diagnostic procedures.

Digital X-Ray

Dr. Brandhorst uses digital radiography to enhance our ability to screen for dental diseases that are not visible during your dental exam. Because digital dental x-rays use extremely low levels of radiation, they are even safer than traditional radiographs.

We recommend getting new digital x-rays every 1 to 2 years as they can reveal problems on areas we cannot see unaided.

Fluoride Treatments

To help reduce the incidence of tooth decay, CreekSide Family Dentistry uses Fluoride treatments to prevent it or reverse the progression of cavities.  Our preferred in-office treatment is Fluoride foam applied through the use of a mouth tray.

The treatment generally takes 1 to 2 minutes and patients should not rinse, eat, smoke, or drink for at least 30 minutes after application.  Most insurances cover the cost of this treatment, but we always check to make sure.

Teeth Sealants

CreekSide Family Dentistry recommends sealants to patients between the ages of 6 to 19 as a preventative measure to fight cavity formations. Plaque accumulates in the fissures of molars and premolars.

It is difficult to clean these tiny grooves. To protect the pits of these permanent teeth, layers of plastic are applied on the grooves and fissures of the teeth to prevent them from decay and cavities. The sealants are painless and provide an extra level of protection against decay.

Teeth Cleaning

Teeth cleaning (also known as prophylaxis) is a procedure for removing stains and bacteria from teeth and from under the gums, especially in areas that are difficult to reach.

At CreekSide Family Dentistry prophys are done by one of our highly skilled dental hygienists. In our office a typical cleaning consists of evaluation of teeth and tissue. We take the time to assess each patient’s questions and concerns.
